Tiens, voilà de compte rendu d'un Guerrier, un vrai, le Grand Brad Kahlefeldt. C'est en anglais mais ça donne une idée de la bagarre (et ce que raconte Francky aussi!)
Bonjour a tous,
Well Im back in Saarbrucken Germany now after a weekend away racing in the
first Grand Prix of the season in Dunkerque on the north sea.
The field was strong with all the french guys racing as well as many
internationals.
After the womens race the temperature dropped to below 10deg and I had to
run on the spot just to keep warm to watch my GF rici race (and place 4th!)
Then the word was out that the water temp was 13deg. Ohh no good, I didnt
bring my wetsuit hood! So my head felt like exploding from the freezing cold
water, but the 5000 jelly fish on the swim course soon took my mind off
that! No one was really getting stung as we swam through them all in warmup,
so no probs.
Anyway after a couple false starts the race was underway the field was big,
90 odd guys and we had to swim through a small tunnel just 70 metres from
the start that was no wider than 15 metres. sure enough the swim turned into
an "all in brawl" only a minute into the race. After getting hit in the head
a few times and giving some back we were through the tunnel on our way out
to the small harbour round the boeys and back. By the time we come back
through the tunnel the field had managed to spread out abit and the arms
were not so fresh so there was less fighting. Just before exiting the water
there was some sharp rocks and a few people got pushed out and had to swim
over them(I was one) so I came out in 15th just off the lead pack of the
swimmers Sanson,Bignet bros., Poulet,boubre etc.
As expected that pack got away and we were left to try to chase them down.
The ride was similar to a crit, ie alot of corners and pace was up and down
so it made it even more difficult as it was quite hard to brake the first
half of the bike as blood gushing out all over my hands and onto the brake
levers from the sharp rocks I swam over, anyway so the smaller pack got away
and had a lead of 1.30 off the bike which was too much to run down over 5k.
I was first out of my pack which was the main chase group of 30 guys. I
pushed the pace from the start and got a lead on the others which included
Maik Petzold, Rasmas Henning,Polykarpenko,vassilev,Fleurton,Dodet and
Blasco. With one lap to go Maik,Fleurton and Polykarpenko and Blasco caught
me so I ran with them and went again with 800m to go and finished in
front. With my team mate Maik out sprinting 2004 World nob. 2 Polykarpenko.
So I ended up running up to 7th. It wasnt a bad day. My team RCF was the
overall.
My next race is in Les Sables D´olonne on the west coast of France this
Sunday.
Ill let you know how it goes.
Cya
Brad
