The world will be looking to South Africa in 2010 and the excitement of the FIFA World Cup will definitely spill out into other areas. One such area will be the Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa due to take place on Sunday, 25 April. The sixth edition of this race is going to be special and registration has already opened, but with limited places available - only 1800 lucky athletes get to experience the charm of this fabulous race!

Race Director Paul Wolff had this to say about the 2010 race, "We are eager to make the race extremely special for both the athletes and the spectators. The whole city will be on the brink of the soccer World Cup and the vibe is going to be incredible. This is one Ironman that you don't want to miss out on."

42.2km Run

The run will be a three loop course of 14.07km along Marine Drive. The run route is a very fast flat route with no hills through the top gate of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and out through the bottom gate of the University and back towards transition. The route will be closed to civilian vehicles.
Aidstations will be available, approximately 2km apart.

The total cut-off time is 12:00am (midnight) – 17 hours after race start.

30 slots pour Hawaii l'an dernier:
SLOT ALLOCATION / HAWAII QUALIFICATION

The Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa Triathlon is offering 30 Slots for the Ford IRONMAN Triathlon World Championship, Hawaii 2009.

Slots that are won at the Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa Triathlon 2009 are valid for the 2009 Ford IRONMAN World Championship in Hawaii exclusively. There is a chance that might not be an athlete in a specific age group category. If there are no athletes entered in the race in a particular age group, then that slot will be moved to the largest populated age group in that same gender.

The administrative allocation of slots will be executed by the organizers.

Attention

All athletes who are in contention for a 2009 Ford IRONMAN World Championship slot have to be present at the slot presentation at the Slot Allocation in the Ironman Dome at 14:00.

Please be sure to bring along the following to get the Ford IRONMAN World Championship 2009 qualification papers:

Identification Document (ID book or Driver's License)
US$ 500 (registration fee for the Ford IRONMAN Hawaii 2008 in cash). You may also pay in Rands or Euros as long as it is equivelant to the slot allocation fee of US$500.
No credit cards or cheques will be accepted!

Please Note: These are only preliminary slots - slots allocations can change until 14:00 on Monday, 6th April 2009.

SLOT ALLOCATION POLICY

At least one slot shall be allocated to each five-year age group category in which any age group athlete sends in an application, both male and female, per the age group categories listed above. If there are no athletes entered in the race in a particular age group, then that slot will be moved to the largest populated age group in that same gender. For additional age group slots, slot allocation shall be representative of the actual number of age grouper applicants in each category in the race. As an example, if 8% of the age-group applicants are females 40-44, then 8% of these slots would be allocated in the female 40-44 category.*

Regulation from World Triathlon Corporation (WTC): The age of the athlete which applies to the age group he/she has entered for refers to the age the athlete is in the Race YEAR. ie - the age you are turning in 2009.

Example: born after January 1 - March 18/1977 = M25/F25
In this example, athletes born on 14 April would start in the next higher age group in Hawaii, because this age group regulation also applies to Hawaii.

*Final slot allocation will be posted on the event website and at the race site the day before the race. The number of slots per category might be slightly changed later on based on the exact number of applications per category.
